There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays
Many of us here in Charlotte live in these fantastic older homes with character, and are lucky enough to have great front porches. Why not make the most of them this holiday season? Look no further for holiday curb appeal ideas! Here are some thoughts to help get you started. Be sure to clean off the porch, sweep any remaining fall leaves up, and do any maintenance that needs to be done. Now you are ready to decorate. You could prop up an old sled near the door. Fill urns with evergreens, white branches, and maybe red berries – use the thriller, spiller, filler rule. Garland along the railings is always a nice touch. If you have terra cotta pots laying around, line them up and fill those with greenery, pine cones and shiny ornaments. You could do the same with hanging baskets. If you have a table on your porch, add a glass cloche filled with either battery operated lights, or shiny ornaments for a focal point. Along a walkway, you could add shepherd’s hooks and hang ornaments, jingle bells, greenery, or whatever else appeals to you. Heck, just put a wreath on the front door if you want easy, quick, and simple. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming or crazy, a few small touches can go a long way.

Our Arts District residents are such a unique, eclectic bunch, it would be awesome to see what each of our neighbors choose to do to express themselves. Personally, I’d love to be able to pack up some warm beverages and walk our streets admiring the decorated homes. Who knows, there might even be caroling, although that would entail a little something extra in my warm beverage. I wish you warmth, peace, love, and happiness this holiday season, and always.
