So this morning we set the clocks forward an hour, a sure sign that Spring is right around the corner. Mother Nature teases us with some sunny days with the temps reaching in the high 60’s, then reminds us that, hey, it IS only early March and sends us a brutal wake up call, with days reaching only in the 40’s.
Daylight Saving Time is a good reminder to do some of the maintenance tasks around the house.
Change out the batteries in your smoke detectors.
Let’s face it, no one likes when the battery goes low and it always happens at 2 in the morning on a weekday when it does. Prevent this by being proactive and switching out the batteries twice a year during Daylight Saving Time.
There’s different mindsets on how often you should switch out your air filters.
Certainly more often than twice a year – but if you haven’t done this recently, now is as good a time as any, so get on it!
A good deep cleaning this time of year goes a long way. Wash the windows, the blinds, sweep the porch, etc. Any of those cleaning chores that aren’t in your usual roster should be tackled now.
Organize and declutter
Toss out old magazines and papers no longer needed. Put items away that aren’t used on a daily basis. Go through your closet – anything you haven’t worn in the last year should be set aside for a charitable donation. A good rule of thumb is anytime anything new comes in the house, something old must go out.
