Charlotteans love their Home and Garden Tours, and Springtime bring plenty of opportunities to attend one, or a few, as the case may be. This Spring, there were no less than three tours available: the Charlotte Garden Tour, Midwood Maynia, and the Mid Century Modern Home Tours. On April 18-19, the Charlotte Garden Club held their 2015 Art In The Garden Tour. Seven gardens were featured on the tour this year, along with Plein Air Painting; artists in the yards, using different art mediums (watercolor, acrylic, chalk etc). Outdoor living is popular in the Queen City, as evidenced by these private backyard spaces. Outdoor seating areas, fireplaces, and water features were all prolific.
Midwood Maynia, put on by the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association (PMNA) is always the first weekend in May. Midwood Maynia is more than just the Home and Garden Tour though, this is an all day event. There’s a pet parade, a 5k race, live music performerances, and vendors. The Home and Garden Tour consisted of various homes as well as the Vine church, and The Light Factory. A really nice feature this year, B Cycle had bikes available so tour visitors could actually ride the bicycles from house to house. Again, outdoor living was prominent, with outdoor covered rooms, envy worthy sheds, and outdoor kitchens.
The Mad About Modern Tour celebrates everything Mid Century Modern. A trend that’s been growing in recent years, the homes, condos and two churches were splendid examples. Historic Charlotte is the mastermind behind this tour, and doing what they can to help promote the preservation and celebration of older architecture around Charlotte.
